First reality check

Hi. The purpose of this blog is simple - we want to hear real stories from real people out there.

We are a group of Year 11 and 12 students (and teachers) working in the course called Career & Enterprise at Belmont City College in Perth, Western Australia.

This year we are focusing on digital technologies and how they have changed the way we live, work, learn, socialise, behave, communicate, look for and find work, share things and so on (this is our syllabus). We will pay particular attention to the rise of Web 2.0 tools (sharing sites, blogs, wikis, social and professional networks...).

In class we can gather information through books and websites, watch expensive and scripted videos, have a chat among ourselves but to really get more raw, real and human stories from out there we need to 'walk the talk' and ask the world. And that is exactly what we are doing using Web 2.0 tools!

In our first post we are kindly asking you to spend just a few minutes writing about:

  • your current age and location
  • your first paid job (description, location, casual/part/full time, duties and similar...)
  • treatment by others at first workplace (best/worst incidents, general impression, your rights, bosses and co-workers, things you have learn from it...)
  • safety at first workplace (any procedures, dangers you were [not] aware of but found out later, injuries, horror stories...)

You don't have to use your real name or names of companies, just an honest story would be hugely appreciated.

What's in it for you?

A neat collection of stories someone else has gathered which you can use and learn from AND a great karma with bucketloads of gratitude from us.

Please feel free to pass this on. Thank you!
